Childress’ Advocacy and Support

As Vice President-Print and National Secretary, Deirdre has a proven track record of gaining jobs for NABJ members and advocating on their behalf. Deirdre helped to launch the NABJ Reinvention Committee and has made several advocacy missions to newspapers across the country and in Canada, negotiating on jobs and supporting members. She mentors high school students with NABJ Founder Acel Moore’s High School Development Program and collegians from LaSalle, Penn, Temple and Rutgers Universities.

“Deirdre has the ability to make people feel part of our organization and that they are supported. She is there for them.”

–Founder Acel Moore, Editor Emeritus,
The Philadelphia Inquirer.

“Deirdre has the skill, experience and drive to navigate NABJ to achieve its goals - securing opportunity for black journalists to thrive and lead.”

“I am making an appeal for your vote for Deirdre M. Childress. As Vice President – Print and past National Secretary, Deirdre has shown time-and-time again her dedication to our national organization. Deirdre coordinated the new NABJ CARES program to assist members in finding jobs, especially after layoffs, because she knows our careers are the Number One issue facing NABJ members. We all benefit from her independent leadership and no-nonsense approach to business dealings and fundraising events.

So, please join me as I cast my ballot for Deirdre!

“I’m voting for Deirdre Childress because from my very first PABJ meeting she’s been a great mentor and friend. Always willing to help and support, Deirdre also helped me get into Poynter’s Fellowship for College Journalists. I’m voting for Deirdre because she’s just what NABJ needs.”
