Deirdre has been a major fundraiser for NABJ and its chapters. As co-chair of the NABJ On the Move campaign, Deirdre helped raise $100,000 to move the national headquarters. She worked as one of the early planners of the 2011 Hall of Fame event at the Newseum, which raised $80,000. She co-chaired a Washington fundraiser that raised more than $60,000 for the Washington Chapter. Deirdre worked with the Canadian Association of Black Journalists and Toronto Tourism to fund the board’s Fall 2010 meeting, a $15,000 sponsorship. She worked on NABJ’s 30th anniversary celebration in Philadelphia. Among corporate sponsors for NABJ, Deirdre has worked with Harrah’s, Greater Philadelphia Tourism Marketing Corp., the San Diego Zoo for a $10,000 reception for student projects members, Shop Rite, Lucky Strike bowling and many others for smaller donations to NABJ programs.
